Hello, my name is David Spainhower, and I’m a TMJ Dentist with a real live private practice in Layton Utah. When attending Creighton University Dental School (1989-1993) in Omaha Nebraska, I focused on TMJ. If fact I would try to extract as much information out of my instructors as possible…meeting them after school privately and inbetween classes.
During my second year out of Dental School, I started my private TMJ practice. Since then my philosophies have evolved as I saw that everything they teach in dental school was not exactly accurate concerning TMJ. The reason is, is that stress is the variable to treating TMJ. We were taught in school to correct and fix bad bites. Yes, bad bites can cause TMJ, but Not every individual with a bad bite has TMJ, nor is a bad bite the primary factor causing TMJ in all cases. So, fixing a bad bite in those situations are Not necessary for the TMJ symptoms to go away. Please follow any links here on this website to find many pearls to help you with your TMJ issues.
Sincerely,
Dr. Spainhower
